Summer in Tux

Hiking, biking, and glacier adventures from 1,300 to 3,250 meters. Ferienhaus Evelyn is just 1.6 kilometers from the Eggalmbahn, and everything else starts right at your front door.

Summer retreat instead of a heatwave holiday

A summer holiday in Tux starts without the need for a long drive. From Vorderlanersbach 88, it is 1.6 kilometers to the Eggalmbahn valley station, the hiking bus stops in the village, and the first trails start right at your doorstep.

The 94 m² space accommodates two to eight people and features a modern, fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, and a sun terrace where you can relax after your hike. Eva Eberl grew up in Tux and knows exactly which route is best for any given weather.

Stay cool at 1,300 meters

While the heat settles in the valley, Tux begins at 1,300 meters and reaches up to 3,250 meters. With every increase in altitude, the air becomes noticeably cooler.

What is currently being hailed as the "coolcation" travel trend has always been the norm in the Tux Valley: hiking without the heat, nights where you can actually sleep, and a glacier at 3,250 meters where you can ski well into July. If you’re standing in the snow at the Hintertux Glacier in the morning, you’ll be sitting on the holiday home’s sun terrace by the afternoon.

Two Tickets for Summer

For your summer holiday in the Tux valley, there are two offers that almost always pay off: the TUX³ Ticket for three peaks in six days and the Zillertal Activcard for free travel throughout the entire region.

TUX³ Ticket

Three mountains, one ticket, six days to explore. The Hintertux Glacier up to 3,250 metres, the Penkenjoch with Pepi's Kinderland, and the Eggalm with the Almspielerei. Every ride is yours to choose within six days. You save around 10 percent compared to single tickets, and children under 10 travel for free.

Hiking, Biking, and Climbing

If you are staying at Ferienhaus Evelyn, there is no need to hunt for a bus. The Eggalmbahn is 1.6 kilometers away, the hiking bus stops in the village, and the first hiking trails start right at your doorstep. The Rastkogelbahn, located right next to the house, only operates in winter.

Hiking in the Nature Park

The Eggalmbahn lift takes you up to the Eggalm, from where marked trails lead along the Tuxer Höhenweg and on to the mountain huts. If you want to go higher, take the path to the Höllensteinhütte or the Junsalm.

Mountain Bike and E-Bike

Around 150 kilometers of developed bike routes crisscross the region, ranging from a leisurely valley loop along the Tuxbach stream to panoramic tours on the Penken. E-bikes are available at several rental stations in the village, and you have a bike storage area right at the house.

Climbing & Adventure

Via ferratas for various skill levels, canyoning through the gorges of the Zemmgrund, and rafting on the Ziller river. Eva Eberl is happy to recommend local providers based on your group's experience level.

Suspension bridge at the Olpererhütte

One of Tyrol's most famous photo spots is just over 45 minutes from the holiday home. At 2,389 meters, the small suspension bridge above the Olpererhütte spans a mountain stream, with the turquoise Schlegeis Reservoir glowing in the background.

It is 27.5 kilometers to the reservoir parking lot via the toll-paying Schlegeis Alpine Road, followed by a hike of about two hours and nearly 600 meters in altitude to the hut. For the best photos, go in the late afternoon when the sun is behind you and the day-trippers have already headed back to the valley.

Summer at the Hintertux Glacier

Coolcation in Tux

"Coolcation" means spending the summer where it’s still comfortable. Tux starts at 1,300 meters and reaches up to 3,250. While Southern Europe and the lowland cities suffer through heatwaves, it reliably cools down up here every night. You’ll sleep with the window open, not in front of an air conditioner.

Spend your days outdoors. In August, hiking is a matter of altitude, not time of day. If it gets too warm in the valley, head to the Tuxbach stream or travel further up. There is snow on the glacier well into midsummer, the lifts operate from May to early October, and it stays at freezing point in Nature's Ice Palace regardless.
